Privacy Statement

This Privacy Statement explains what personal information is collected when you use mothsintheact.org (the "Site"), how it is used and who it is shared with.

Information You Give Us

When you place an order we collect your name, business name (if provided), phone number (if provided), email address, shipping address, billing address and the number of copies ordered. We use this information to process and deliver your order, to contact you about it and to keep our sales records.

When you use the Contact Us form we collect your name, email address and the subject and text of your message. We use this information to reply to you.

We do not use your details for marketing and we do not sell or rent them to anyone.

Payment Information

Credit card payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details are entered into a secure form supplied by Stripe and are sent directly to Stripe. We never see or store your card number.

To take your payment and send you a receipt, we pass your name, email address, shipping address and billing address to Stripe along with the amount of your order. For orders delivered outside Australia, we use the same details to send you an invoice through Stripe. Stripe also collects information about your device and browser, and may use cookies, to help detect and prevent fraud. Stripe's handling of your information is described in the Stripe Privacy Policy.

Protection Against Automated Abuse

Our order form and Contact Us form are protected by hCaptcha, a service provided by Intuition Machines, Inc., which checks that a form is being completed by a person and not by an automated program. To do this, hCaptcha collects your IP address, information about your device and browser, and how you interact with the page, and may use cookies. hCaptcha's handling of this information is described in the hCaptcha Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Information Collected Automatically

Like most websites, our web server keeps a log of each request it receives. The log includes your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the page that referred you and the type of browser and device used. We use these logs to keep the Site secure and to produce general visitor statistics. When you submit an order, your IP address is recorded with it to help us detect fraudulent orders.

We do not set any cookies of our own and we do not use advertising or social media trackers. The only cookies you may receive while using the Site are those set by Stripe and hCaptcha as described above.

Other Services That Receive Information

  • Fonts, icons and scripts. To display its pages, the Site loads fonts and software libraries from servers operated by Google (Google Fonts and Google Hosted Libraries), Cloudflare (cdnjs) and unpkg. Your browser contacts those servers directly, so they receive your IP address and browser details.
  • Email. Orders and Contact Us messages are delivered to us by email, and our mailbox is provided by Google (Gmail). Those messages are therefore stored on Google's systems.
  • Website hosting and support. The company that hosts and maintains the Site for us has access to the information held on the server, so that it can keep the Site working.
  • Delivery. We give your name and shipping address to Australia Post or another carrier so that your order can be delivered.

We may also disclose information where we are required to do so by law.

Overseas Disclosure

Stripe, hCaptcha, Google, Cloudflare and unpkg operate in the United States and other countries, so information they receive may be stored or processed outside Australia.

Storage and Retention

Order details are stored on our web server and in our email and sales records. We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Order details are retained on our web server for a maximum of 30 days after the order is placed. The copies in our email and sales records are kept for as long as needed to fulfil your order and to meet our accounting and legal obligations, which is generally at least five years. Stripe keeps its own records of payments in accordance with its privacy policy. We never have access to your credit card details so those details are only collected by Stripe and never stored by us.

Access and Correction

You may ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by using the Contact Us form. We will respond within a reasonable time. We may need to keep some information where the law requires us to.

Complaints

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first so that we can try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

This Privacy Statement may be amended from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page.
